It’s World Fair Trade Day on 14th May – the theme is Be an Agent For Change!

Fair Trade is an agent for change – promoting sustainable development, working to reduce poverty and exploitation. World Fair Trade Day (an WFTO initiative) started in 2001 and is a worldwide celebration of Fair Trade. So what can you do to celebrate Fair Trade and be an agent for change? Here’s some ideas that needn’t break the bank.

WFTO human chain

Join a Virtual Worldwide Human Chain

This is quite possibly our favourite (although sadly only works if you have an android smartphone). Show solidarity to fair trade producers around the globe by uploading a photo of yourself using the Android WFTO poster generator and share on social media using these hashtags #FairTradeDay  #AgentForChange That’s it, you’re part of a global human chain!

Join the Fair Trade Challenge – 13th-15th May.

Sign up and share with your friends – Fair Trade International are aiming for a record number of fair trade cuppas to be drunk over the 3 days – you can log each fair trade coffee that you drink and support coffee farmers facing the impacts of climate change. Who doesn’t love a cup of coffee?! Join in here.

Share the message on Social Media

Follow us @Fair_Crafts on Twitter and on Facebook – we’ll be sharing World Fair Trade Day info up to and on the day. Use the hashtags #AgentForChange #FairTradeChallenge (don’t forget to sign up!) and #WFTD

Change your Shopping habits for a day

Buy one (or more) Fair trade products that you wouldn’t normally put in your trolley instead of your usual brand. Try fair trade bananas, coffee or tea. You never know, it could be the start of a beautiful friendship!
